Night #2

I ate so many latkes last night, I thought I was going to die. But no one makes them like my Aunt Kathy. It was great to play dreidel with my cousins again.

Happy Hanukkah everyone.

Bigger & brighter

According to this article, last week, the moon was the nearest it gets to Earth during its egg-shaped orbit around Earth, making it appear 30% brighter and 14% larger than the other full moons seen so far this year.

And, because I went around telling people this all weekend, it made me 10% nerdier.

USPS

I sit in an office with two other women (Cathy and Kat) and one guy. Paul, the lone male, has to suffer through lots of ladies locker room talk. Everything from discussing (in detail) the birth of Cathy’s daughter, to making vagina jokes, to me accidentally dropping a thong under Paul's desk on the way to change into my gym clothes in the bathroom (that really happened, and it was really an accident).

An event this afternoon led to a good girl giggle. Kat, who is German and, though she speaks English fluently, occasionally makes an adorable mistake, came up the stairs and said: “Paul, you’ve got a huge package.”

She meant, of course, that a box had arrived for him downstairs. But that's not what it sounded like.

Paul paused a moment and then said, “Thanks, Kat.”

And I then I busted out laughing. Cathy soon followed, and everyone (even Paul) was cracking up. Definitely a welcomed break from the crazy busy stressed out atmosphere that the creative department has housed the past week (leaving me too busy to blog).

Household changes

Today our new roommate moved in.

I have to say first that Brian moving out was very sad. I nearly shed a tear as he packed up his photograph of corn and took his 32” plasma flat screen from our living room (you should’ve seen me and Molly with no TV last night; we sort of stared blankly at each other for a while and then rearranged the Tupperware drawer, cleaned out the closet and made mustard from scratch. Luckily the new roommate has already brought his TV, so all that productivity can cease). Brian leaving is the end of an era, as he first moved in with me back in 2004. But luckily it’s for a valid reason – he’s moving in with a girlfriend, whom we like very much, so things could be a lot worse.

That being said, having a new roommate is like Christmas in, well, in December I guess. But you get my point. Unpacking his bag of kitchen stuff brought my joys I’d never before experienced. Feelings like “We have a pie dish?” and “This knife actually cuts stuff!” Not to mention the DVDs, new bath mat, and the afore mention TV. I think we scored. He’s also really tall, so he can reach the high shelves. And he’s already installed a new wireless modem. I think we’ll get along just fine.

Goodbye, Brian. Hello, Richard.
